Description of Property
The Salt Marsh Cottages, a separate regime community within the Moss Creek Community, “brought national recognition to our area decades ago for their ecofriendly and innovative design.” Built in 1978-79, architect Jakie Lee had “no desire to render the cottages within a manicured landscape, but envisioned them as a partner to the site. Working together in clusters, the units become more meaningful and connect in thoughtful organic patterns.” Lee's Salt Marsh Cottages “excellent floor plans” and “connection to nature” won a 1980 merit award from the SC Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. “Interior spaces in the Salt Marsh Cottages have balance and pleasing proportional relationships. At about 1,100 square feet, each cottage's interior possesses surprising height and volume. Light enters everywhere and outside seems to merge with inside through a generous number of doors, windows and skylights.” There are 42 Salt Marsh Cottages with 3 different floor plans situated in 6 cul-de-sacs. Quotes excerpted from the article are by Jeff Eley, Professor of Architectural History at Savannah College of Art & Design, published March 14, 2011, in the Island Packet. At the foot of the Hilton Head Island bridges lies Moss Creek Plantation. Sprawled over 1,000 picturesque acres of the South Carolina Lowcountry, Moss Creek is an unparalleled private community with magnificent sunsets and water views.

Guest Parking
1. If you have guests coming that will occupy more than your two allotted spaces, reach out to your neighbors in advance and ask if you can use their parking space. Many owners are only here part time, so this may be a good solution depending on how long your guest is staying and which pod you are in.
